HISTORY - The Noughties
2000 saw the rebirth of the practice’s education design skills, producing a number of design awards and initially with considerable involvement with the schools PFI procurement route. A very high success rate resulted in the practice winning two Academies, four BSF programmes, one Primary Schools Capital Investment Programme, seven PFI’s comprising 31 schools in total, and seven direct appointments in the decade for primary and secondary schools including special needs.
Commercial projects continued with offices, retail, distribution and airport related work including hangars, offices and passenger terminal facilities for executive jets.
ACP became heavily involved in waste recycling facilities around the UK with the first plant becoming operational in 2004.
Laboratory and research projects expanded in the university sector once again at Imperial College, King’s College, Guy’s Hospital and the Institute of Ophthalmology.
ACP won the competition for a new Sikh Temple in Southall, London which was completed in 2002 and is deemed the largest Sikh Temple outside of the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India.
Work outside the UK has been scaled back but ACP came second in an international competition in Poland and made inputs into various education projects in the Middle East.
ACP’s work for the Home Office and the Immigration Service included PFI projects for Detention Centres, Holding and Removal Centres, as well as administrative and call-in centres by conventional appointment and through framework agreements.
Residential projects included student accommodation, private and public housing developments, and extensions to several large private houses.
