HISTORY - The Nineties
ACP was appointed by the Overseas Development Administration to act on its behalf to monitor progress of a programme of 12 hospitals being constructed in Malaysia.
In 1991 the firm was awarded a commission to design and build a 232-bed hospital in Gaza for UNRWA (the United Nations Relief and Works Agency), and in 1993 was commissioned to design and supervise the construction of three new prisons Caribbean on the Islands of Tortola, Anguilla and Grand Turk.
Laboratory and research projects included a term contract with SmithKline Beecham and continued at Imperial College London and the Institute of Psychiatry. The new Learning Resources Centre was built for the University of Hertfordshire.
ACP expanded into the commercial sector with warehouses and distribution centres for ASDA, and the UK Headquarters and Distribution Centre for Levi Strauss. A new subsidiary company, ‘ACP Askew Limited’, was set up to pursue further commercial projects. Refurbishment projects were carried out for BAA at Heathrow, Stansted and Luton airports, and a number of specialist outlets were created at major airports and railway stations for ‘International Currency Exchange’.
Involvement with PFI projects began with a bid for the MOD Headquarters refurbishment in Whitehall.
The second generation of ACP directors retired to be replaced by the current board.
